Getting started

Get more from Google Forms™ with Form Amp.

A practical guide to each tool, the permissions Form Amp asks for, and the Free and Pro plans.

Install and open

Install Form Amp with the option below. If the public listing is not available yet, it takes you to launch updates. Then open any Google Form you can edit and choose the puzzle-piece Add-ons icon → Form Amp → Open Form Amp. In a narrow window, Google Forms puts add-ons under ⋮ → Add-ons.

Request launch updates

The sidebar’s home screen shows whether the Form is open, a health check, the tools that are on for this Form, and a searchable list of every tool. Select the expand icon at the top to work in a large window with a side menu; close it to return to the sidebar.

Options from a Sheet (Dynamic choices)

  1. Open Dynamic choices → Connect a question and choose a dropdown, multiple-choice or checkbox question.
  2. Paste a Google Sheets link, or select Create a Sheet from current options. Choose the tab and column.
  3. Select Preview options to see what will be added and removed, then Save and update Form.

Blank rows and repeated values are removed (ignoring case). Options that stay keep their section routing and quiz answers. Free connects one question per Form and refreshes daily or when you select Refresh now; Pro connects every question, refreshes hourly or after each response, and adds row filters.

Seat limits and schedules

Choice limits give each option a number of seats. When an option fills, Form Amp removes it from the question; when every option is full, the Form closes. If several people submit for the last seat at the same moment, an option can go one or two over—Form Amp recounts regularly and when you select Recount. Free limits one question; Pro adds every question, “(n left)” labels, an email when an option fills, and freeing a seat when a response is marked Rejected.

Schedule opens and closes the Form at set times in the time zone you choose, with your own messages. Google runs add-on schedules about once an hour, so changes happen within an hour of the set time, or straight away when you open Form Amp. Pro adds weekly windows.

Answer checks make answers match an email address, web link, number, number range, length, phone number (including India and Saudi Arabia formats), a count of ticked options or your own pattern, with the message you write.

Scoring, emails and statuses

Scores, statuses and repeat flags are saved as Form Amp columns (FA Score, FA Percent, FA Band, FA Result, FA Status, FA Duplicate, FA Key) after Google’s own columns in the Form’s response Sheet. Form Amp can create the response Sheet for you.

  • Scoring opens a large setup window: points for correct answers, accepted text, number ranges, negative marking, partial credit for checkboxes and pass/fail bands. Use your quiz answer key as a starting point and preview a score before saving.
  • Emails send respondents a confirmation using variables such as {{name}}, {{score}} and {{band}}. Preview and send a test first. On the free plan, confirmations end with a short “Sent with Form Amp” line.
  • Duplicates & status track a status for every response and flag repeat submissions by email address or chosen answers. Repeats are matched with a one-way code, not the answers themselves.

Responses and other tools

The Responses window lists responses newest first with their scores, bands and statuses. Search, filter and open a response to see every answer, jump to its row in the Sheet, or open its edit link. Response formulas copy formulas from row 2 onto each new response row, even when the Sheet is filtered or sorted. QR & links draws a QR code in your browser and creates prefilled links. Edit questions (Pro) changes many questions at once, always with a preview.

Plans and licenses

The free plan includes one Sheet-connected question, one limited question, one-time schedules, answer checks, scoring with bands, confirmation emails, status tracking, formulas, QR codes and prefilled links. Each Form gets 100 responses scored and emailed a month; later responses keep their status and formulas. The Responses window shows the newest 50.

Start the 14-day Pro trial from Plan & privacy inside Form Amp—no card needed. To buy Pro, select Get Pro. Polar emails your license key; paste it into Plan & privacy and select Activate. Use Restore access with the same key to move your license to another Google account. If a trial or subscription ends, Pro extras such as team alerts and hourly refresh pause, while seat counts, scoring and schedules keep working. Compare plans →

Why Form Amp asks for these permissions

forms.currentonly

Read and update only the Form Form Amp is installed in: options, limits, schedules, answer checks and question edits, and read its responses to count seats, score answers, spot repeats and fill the Responses window.

forms.body.readonly

Read the Form’s name from Google’s Forms API to label the sidebar, created Sheets, exports and emails. Form Amp cannot change any Form with this permission.

spreadsheets

Read Sheets you connect, create a source, response or export Sheet when you ask, and write Form Amp’s columns and formulas in the response Sheet.

script.container.ui / script.scriptapp / script.storage

Show the sidebar and windows, run each Form’s background updates, and store settings, counts and a short activity log.

script.send_mail

Send only the emails you set up, and test emails you request, from your Google account.

script.external_request

Check your plan with Better Work Apps using a random installation ID and the app version (plus your license key when you activate one), and ask Google’s Forms API for the Form’s name. No Form content, answers or Sheet data is sent to Better Work Apps.

Troubleshooting

  • Background updates didn’t run. Open Form Amp and check Health; select Repair if it says background updates are off.
  • An email didn’t arrive. Check Health for failed emails and Google’s daily sending limit; failed emails can be resent from Responses (Pro).
  • Options or seats look out of date. Select Refresh now or Recount.
